Meal Prep Company Reviews: Factor

Factor75 is a company devoted to delivering balanced, health-conscious meals to your doorstep. Their philosphy is simple; create meals using ingredients that check the box of "why?" they are beneficial to your health. The company offers a wide range of meals depending on different goals. There are low-carb meals, low-calorie meals, high protein meals, and even fiber-focused meals. Sounds too good to be true, right? Well I've laid out my thoughts on Factor, both pros and cons, for you to decide if this meal prep company will work for you.

My experience with Factor

I ordered Factor meals for six weeks. I first started eating Factor one week after delivering twins. The convenience of this meal prep company really intrigued me, along with all the different options in meals. When ordering meals, I chose low calorie-high protein options by filtering these parameters. Even while applying the two filters, I had 20+ meals to look through and decide. I ordered ten meals each week; five for myself, and five for my husband. Although I'd say I was consistent, my husband only used his as a last option resort for food. Do with that inforation what you will. While using Factor, I was not in a calorie deficit. I find this to be an important note because if I was, I would have found their high-calorie nature rather hindering when trying to maximize the calorie allowance. I did lose a lot of baby weight while on Factor, simply because I delivered the twins and was prioritizing nutrition. I do not think it was a huge contributor nor did I lose all of the weight I had gained while pregnant (I had about 8-10lbs to go, which I contribute the plateau to breast feeding). Below I'll discuss the taste, convenience, nutrition and food quality at a greater scale.

Taste

4/5 stars

First and foremost, let's discuss taste. It's probably the most important factor of all, because if it doesn't taste good, why would you order it? Each meal I had was delightful and there was never a time I said "ew" to what I was eating. I ordered an array of meal types, from fresh salads to meat and mashed poatoes. I was also given a few breakfasts for free as a perk, allowing me to try their pancakes and protein shakes. Most of the flavors came from the sauces used or the carb sources. The protein, althought cooked well and tasty, never had much seasoning on it. The vegetables weren't ever soggy, so I also found these to be pretty good.

Convenience

3/5

Factor ships directly to your door, nationwide. This is a huge convenience for those looking for premade, healthy meals wherever you live. To begin your Factor membership, you simply create an account online and decide the number of meals and frequency delivered. You can update this anytime without penalty, as well as pause your subscription. Once these details are input, you can then select the meals you want each week online or through their app. Unfortunately, the app never worked well for me. It would not "save" any of the changes I'd make when choosing meals. So, I always hopped on my laptop to choose my meals. This was indeed inconvenient. When choosing the meals, you can filter your type of diet to see meals that work for you. For instance, I wanted low calorie, high protein meals. I filtered this weekly and always got 20+ meals to choose from. One inconvenience I want to also bring up, is how difficult the film on the packaging is to take off. I would almost always have to use scissors to cut through the film and peal away. If you're reheating these meals in an office setting, I could see this being very annoying.

Nutrition

4.5/5

When looking at Factor and the nutrition behind their meals, I rate this a 4.5/5 for the fact that many differet goals can benefit. As noted above, Factor provides meals for those looking for low calorie, high protein, fiber-rich, using GLP-1's, even vegetarian. Each meal, no matter the goal type, includes a carb, fat and protein. Factor wants each person to consume each macro, without the sacrifice of health goals. For example, since I ordered mostly low calorie options, I was very surprised when many of my meals included creamy mashed potatoes. This carb source is normally one that adds tons of excess calories, but because of Factors dedication to using foods with nutritional benefit, prepared the mashed potatoes in a way to fit under 550 calories. The only reason I'd give Factor a 4.5 out of 5, is due to its' higher calorie nature. There are little-to- no- meals that are around 300 calories. If you're dieting, a great hack is to eat smaller, more frequent meals so you don't feel always hungry. Factors calorie-smart meals are around 450-550 calories, which is a lot when taking into account the actual size of the meal.

Food Quality

2.5/5

Very little information is give about the actual quality of Factor's ingredients. There is zero information online if their meats are grass fed, free range, or humainly raised. They do not denote if anything is organic. The taste of the food seemed good and nothing ever seemed spoiled; but I do not know if this is due to preservatives.
